Abstract :
Thi article decribe a propective tudy of corneal enitivity and chirmer I core following laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK). Twenty-three conecutive patient who were aymptomatic for evere dry ymptom prior to urgery were included in the tudy. All patient underwent chirmer I tet (without anethetic drop, five minute, eye cloed) and a filament corneal enitivity tet prior to urgery, three to five day potoperatively, and after one and three month. A non-tatitically ignificant trend toward a reduction in chirmer value immediately after urgery wa noted, with a return to lightly lower than baeline level by three month. There wa no tatitically ignificant correlation of gender, age, and manifet pherical equivalent refraction on chirmer value. Corneal enitivity wa ignificantly decreaed immediately after urgery (P < .0001) and returned to preoperative level by three month. When each of the covariant of gender, age, and manifet pherical equivalent were conidered individually, only age had a ignificant effect on the time trend of corneal enitivity (P = .011). Both chirmer tear value and corneal enitivity return to near preoperative level three month after LAIK.
