Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the viual prognoi of amblyopia aociated with aniomyopia and myelinated nerve fiber. Deign Retropective noncomparative cae erie. Method Twelve children with amblyopia aociated with aniomyopia and myelinated nerve fiber were treated with pectacle correction after cycloplegic refraction and occluion therapy for amblyopia. Their viual acuity wa meaured at each viit to the clinic. The patient were divided into three group according to their final viual acuity, and tatitical analye were performed to evaluate the difference among thee group in term of the initial age, pherical equivalent, aniometropia, the area of myelination, final age, and follow-up period. Reult The mean refractive error of the 12 children in pherical equivalent wa −8.16 diopter (range −1.50 to approximately −13.00 diopter). The mean age at the initiation of therapy wa 4.2 year (range 2.1 to 8.6) and the mean follow-up period wa 2.6 year (range 0.5 to 5.1). After the occluion treatment, viual acuity improved to 20/30 in four patient, and to 20/60 in one patient. In the remaining ix patient, viual acuity remained at 20/200 or wore. The amount of aniometropia and the area of myelination were ignificantly different between the group with a final viual acuity of 20/40 or better and the group with a final viual acuity of wore than 20/200. Concluion The viual acuity of about one third of the amblyope with myelinated nerve fiber improved to 20/30. The prognotic factor for the viual improvement were the amount of aniometropia and the area of myelination.
