  • Abstract
Purpoe To evaluate the relative impact of bet and wort eye on viion-related quality of life in patient uffering from age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Deign Quality of life and viual acuity data were collected at baeline during a randomized clinical trial. Method etting: Multicenter (11 center), international tudy. patient: One hundred fourteen patient with a diagnoi of exudative AMD and primary or recurrent ubfoveal neovacular membrane (greatet linear dimenion of leion ≤5400 μm; ≥50% of the total leion wa choroidal neovacularization (CNV); claic component of the total CNV ≥ 1.0 mm2). All patient were over age 50 year, of any race, either ex. intervention or obervation procedure: NEI-VFQ-39 quetionnaire adminitered to patient at home by trained telephone interviewer. main outcome meaure: ETDR viual acuity (VA) wa meaured in both eye eparately. Viion-related quality of life (QoL) wa aeed uing the NEI-VFQ-39. An analyi of variance wa performed on the NEI-VFQ core, including bet eye VA (VA > 20/40 v VA ≤ 20/40), wort eye VA (VA > 20/200 v VA ≤ 20/200), and the interaction between the two a independent variable. Reult Bet eye VA wa 0.34 on average, with VA > 20/40 in 43.0% of patient. Wort eye VA wa 0.85 on average, with VA > 20/200 in 32.5% of patient. VA wa not linked to general health and ocular pain core. General Viion, Near Activitie, Ditance Viion, Driving, Mental Health, Role Difficultie, Dependency, Peripheral Viion, and the Global NEI-VFQ core were affected by both bet eye VA and wort eye VA. Concluion In the tudy ample, wort eye VA (≤20/200) and bet eye VA (≤20/40) contributed independently to viion-related QoL. Thee reult ugget that preerving a minimal viual acuity in the wort eye may contribute to viion-related quality of life.
