  • Abstract
Purpoe To evaluate the correlation between office-hour intraocular preure (IOP) and peak nocturnal IOP in healthy and glaucomatou eye. Deign Retropective review of laboratory record. Method We reviewed 24-hour data of IOP collected from 33 younger healthy ubject (aged 18 to 25 year), 35 older healthy ubject (aged 40 to 74 year), and 35 untreated older glaucoma patient (aged 40 to 79 year) houed in a leep laboratory. Meaurement of IOP were taken every 2 hour uing a pneumatonometer in the itting and upine poition during the diurnal/wake period (7 am to 11 pm) and in the upine poition during the nocturnal/leep period. Correlation between average itting or upine IOP in the right eye between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm (office hour) and peak right eye IOP during the nocturnal hour were analyzed. Reult The average value of upine IOP during office hour were found to have the tronget correlation with peak nocturnal IOP in older glaucoma ubject (r = .713, P < .001), wherea the correlation wa le in older healthy ubject (r = .523, P < .01) and wa abent in younger healthy ubject (r = .224, P = .21). The correlation between average itting IOP value during office hour and peak nocturnal IOP wa alo trong in older glaucoma ubject (r = .601, P < .001) and moderate in older healthy ubject (r = .412, P < .05), but abent in younger healthy ubject (r = −.077, P = .672). Concluion Uing a modification of the diurnal IOP curve, the magnitude of peak nocturnal IOP in untreated glaucoma patient can be etimated during routine office viit. upine IOP meaurement etimate peak nocturnal IOP better than itting meaurement. Thi etimation may provide the clinician with valuable information regarding the nocturnal IOP peak in glaucoma patient.
