Abstract
Purpoe
To decribe an elderly woman who preented with a erou retinal detachment (RD) a the firt ign of Philadelphia-chromoome-poitive acute lymphoblatic leukemia (Ph+ ALL).
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
A complete ophthalmic and ytemic evaluation wa performed on a 62-year-old woman becaue of decreaed viion of 20/60 OD and 20/25 O.
Reult
Fundu examination revealed a RD involving the fovea, OU. Fluorecein angiography dicloed multifocal pot of hyperfluorecence in the early phae, and diffue ubretinal accumulation of fluorecein in the late phae. he wa diagnoed with Ph+ ALL becaue of ytemic finding. he underwent ytemic chemotherapy and went into complete remiion. Viual acuity improved to 20/20 in both eye with reolution of the bilateral RD.
Concluion
Our obervation indicate that a udden appearance of RD, even in an elderly patient, warrant a thorough ytemic creening for underlying leukemia. Thi i epecially important, becaue prompt ytemic chemotherapy can improve the viual acuity and the prognoi.
