Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate corneal higher-order aberration induced by overnight orthokeratology for myopia. Deign Propective, noncomparative, conecutive, interventional cae erie. Method A propective tudy wa conducted in 64 eye of 39 patient with overnight orthokeratology for myopia, who were followed up for at leat 3 month and attained uncorrected viual acuity of 20/20 or better. Corneal height data were obtained with computerized videokeratography (TM-2N, Tomey), and wavefront aberration wa derived uing Zernike polynomial. Higher-order aberration of the cornea were calculated for 3- and 6-mm pupil. Reult Orthokeratology ignificantly reduced manifet refraction from −2.60 ± 1.13 (mean ± D) diopter to −0.17 ± 0.31 diopter (P < .0001, paired t tet). Root-mean-quare (RM) of third-order (coma-like) aberration ignificantly increaed by orthokeratology for both 3-mm (P < .0001, paired t tet) and 6-mm (P < .0001) pupil. Fourth-order RM (pherical-like) aberration increaed ignificantly by the treatment for both 3-mm (P < .0001) and 6-mm (P < .0001) pupil. Vertical coma ignificantly changed from poitive to negative for both 3-mm (P = .0323) and 6-mm (P < .0001) pupil. Horizontal coma ignificantly increaed to the poitive direction for both 3-mm (P < .0001) and 6-mm (P < .0001) pupil. Increae in the third- and fourth-order RM howed ignificant poitive correlation with the amount of myopic correction for 3-mm (Pearon correlation coefficient, r = .452, P = .0001 for third-order RM, r = .381, P = .0017 for fourth-order RM) and 6-mm (r = .499, P < .0001, r = .455, P = .0001) pupil. Concluion Corneal higher-order aberration ignificantly increaed, even in clinically ucceful orthokeratology cae. The increae in the higher-order aberration correlated with the magnitude of myopic correction.
