Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the level of angiopoietin-2 (Ang2) and vacular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in the vitreou fluid of patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) and to acertain their involvement, if any, in angiogenei of PDR.
Deign
Retropective cae-control tudy.
Method
Forty-one eye of 41 patient with proliferative diabetic retinopathy and 18 eye of 18 patient with nondiabetic ocular dieae (control group). Nondiabetic control eye included 11 with idiopathic macular hole and 7 with idiopathic epiretinal membrane. Vitreou fluid ample were obtained at vitrectomy, and the level of Ang2 and VEGF were meaured by enzyme-linked immunoorbent aay.
Reult
Vitreou level (mean ± D) of Ang2 wa ignificantly higher in patient with PDR (1,753 ± 3,213 pg/ml) than in control patient (112 ± 113 pg/ml) (P < .0001). The vitreou concentration of VEGF wa alo ignificantly higher in patient with PDR (812 ± 1,108 pg/ml) than in control patient (1.7 ± 4.4 pg/ml) (P < .0001). Both Ang2 and VEGF level in eye with active PDR were ignificantly higher than in thoe with inactive PDR. The vitreou concentration of Ang2 correlated ignificantly with that of VEGF in eye with proliferative diabetic retinopathy ([correlation coefficient] ρ = 0.497, P = .001).
Concluion
Thee data demontrate an increae of Ang2 in the vitreou fluid of patient with PDR and ugget an aociation of Ang2 and VEGF with angiogenic activity in PDR.
