Nonarteritic anterior ichemic optic neuropathy in patient with leep apnea while being treated with continuou poitive airway preure

Purpoe To report three cae of nonarteritic anterior ichemic optic neuropathy (NAION) that occurred in patient with leep apnea yndrome (A) while being treated with continuou poitive airway preure (CPAP). Deign A propective, noncomparative cae erie. Method Propective review of 108 patient with NAION diagnoed between 2002 and 2003 to identify any patient who developed NAION while being treated for A with CPAP. Reult One patient had bilateral equential NAION and two patient had unilateral NAION depite treatment with CPAP for A. All the patient were being treated with CPAP for a period ranging from 4 month to 6 year before the onet of NAION. Concluion In thi erie, CPAP did not prevent the development of NAION in A patient. Larger obervational tudie are needed to tudy the benefit of CPAP in preventing NAION in patient with A.
