Abstract
Purpoe
To analyze the variou apect of tage 3 macular hole with optical coherence tomography (OCT) and B-can ultraonography.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
Patient referred for full-thickne macular hole were propectively creened with OCT and B-can ultraonography. OCT examination analyzed the diameter of the hole, the poterior hyaloid, the urrounding retina, and the incontant preence of a peudo-operculum. B-can ultraonography permitted the ditinction between tage 3 and tage 4 hole, baed on the detachment of the poterior hyaloid.
Reult
The tudy included 62 eye with tage 3 hole. On OCT, the typical apect with a hyaloid detached from the macular area wa oberved in 37% of the eye (group 3C). In 42% of the eye (group 3B), a focal adherence wa viible at the margin of the hole, a in tage 2 macular hole, but the hole wa long-tanding, large, and noneccentric. In 21% of the eye, the hyaloid wa not viible anterior to the retina but wa till adherent to it (group 3A). In the abence of B-can ultraonography, thee OCT feature could be confued with a tage 4 macular hole. No difference in the ize of the hole wa oberved between ubgroup.
Concluion
OCT can how variou apect of tage 3 macular hole. B-can ultraonography wa ueful for aeing the location of the poterior hyaloid and to ditinguih tage 3 from tage 4 macular hole. Thee feature may provide additional information on the pathogenei of macular hole and may have therapeutic implication.
