Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare age-related macular degeneration (AMD) phenotype between proband in ingleton and multiplex familie to determine whether data from thee two group may be combined for conolidated genetic analye.
Deign
Retropective cae-control tudy.
Method
Individual 55 year of age or older with AMD were identified. Complete hitorie and examination were recorded, 35-mm fundu photograph obtained, and macular finding graded. Detailed information wa recorded, including the preence of extramacular and peripheral druen, peripheral reticular pigmentary change, poterior vitreou detachment, and iri color. Comparion were performed between proband from ingleton and multiplex familie.
Reult
There wa no tatitically ignificant difference in grade between the 411 ingleton and 125 multiplex proband (P = .52), and the ditribution of grade wa imilar between the two group. No tatitically ignificant difference wa found between proband group with repect to the preence or extent of mall (P = .48), intermediate (P = .72), and large druen (P = .74) and retinal pigment epithelium hyper- (P = .76) and hypopigmentation (P = .55); in the preence or grade of peripheral reticular pigment change; the preence of geographic atrophy in exudative dieae, extramacular druen, or poterior vitreou detachment; len tatu; iri color; viual acuity; intraocular preure; optic nerve cupping; and body ma index. A tatitically ignificant difference between the two group wa noted in the preence of peripheral druen (P = .0001).
Concluion
ingleton and multiplex AMD proband hare a imilar phenotype. Thi ugget that multiplex and ingleton data can be combined for conolidated genetic analye.
