Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the pregnancy outcome after the ue of acetazolamide in pregnant patient with idiopathic intracranial hypertenion (IIH).
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
etting: Two tertiary care academic neuro-ophthalmology unit. patient population: Patient with IIH treated with acetazolamide. obervation procedure: Documentation of pregnancy outcome. main outcome meaure: Normal pregnancy, fetal lo, or congenital malformation.
Reult
Twelve patient were treated with acetazolamide for IIH during pregnancy, and there were no advere pregnancy outcome. A critical review of the Englih language literature on the ubject failed to demontrate any convincing evidence for any advere effect on pregnancy for acetazolamide.
Concluion
Acetazolamide at high doe may produce birth defect in animal, but there i little clinical or experimental evidence to upport any advere effect of the drug on pregnancy outcome in human. If the clinical ituation warrant the ue of acetazolamide in IIH, then the drug probably can be offered after appropriate informed conent
