Abstract :
Thi wa a cae-controlled tudy to compare the poturgical rate of globe rupture after penetrating keratoplaty (PKP), phacoemulification (PCE), and extracapular cataract urgery (ECCE). The incidence of globe rupture after PKP (5.8%) wa tatitically ignificant higher than PCE (0%, P< .0001) and ECCE (0.45%, P = .005). The original indication for PKP did not influence the rupture rate. The period of greatet rik wa during the firt potoperative month, during which time 37.5% of all cae occurred, and during the firt month after uture removal. Fifty percent of ruptured globe after PKP had a final viual outcome of hand movement or wore. Eye with PKP have a lifetime increaed rik of globe rupture. —Michael D. Wagoner
