Abstract :
Purpoe To decribe the incidence of, and rik factor for, urgical complication reported during and within the firt pot-operative month after trabeculectomy in the Collaborative Initial Glaucoma Treatment tudy (CIGT). Deign Review of propectively collected data from a multicenter, randomized clinical trial. Method Complication were tabulated for the 300 CIGT patient randomized to urgery. Logitic regreion analye were ued to identify rik factor for complication. Reult Among the 300 patient randomized to initial urgery, 465 trabeculectomie were performed. Intraoperative complication were reported in 55 eye (12%). The mot frequent reported complication were anterior chamber bleeding during urgery (37 eye, 8%) and conjunctival buttonhole (five eye, 1%). Early pot-operative complication were reported in 232 eye (50%). Complication with a frequency over 10% included hallow or flat anterior chamber (62 eye, 13%), encapulated bleb (56 eye, 12%), ptoi (55 eye, 12%), erou choroidal detachment (52 eye, 11%), and anterior chamber bleeding or hyphema (48 eye, 10%). There were three localized uprachoroidal hemorrhage (0.7%) and no cae of endophthalmiti. Older patient were more likely to experience erou choroidal detachment, new anterior or poterior ynechiae, and wound leak. Black were le likely to experience anterior chamber bleeding, but more likely to experience pot-operative ptoi. The number of ubject experiencing bilateral complication wa higher than that which would have been predicted by chance alone. Concluion The incidence of tranient and elf-limiting complication wa high in the perioperative period, but we oberved few complication with the potential to caue evere utained viion lo in thi group of previouly untreated eye.
