Abstract
Purpoe
To evaluate the role of optical coherence tomography (OCT) in determining choroidal neovacularization (CNV) activity before and after photodynamic therapy (PDT) in patient with age-related macular degeneration (ARMD).
Deign
Propective obervational cae erie.
Method
etting: Intitutional tudy. patient population: Fifty-three patient (62 eye) with ARMD. obervation procedure: Propective obervational cae tudy. main outcome meaure: Preence or abence of leakage on fluorecein angiography, preence of intraretinal or ub-retinal fluid on OCT, and macular and choroidal neovacular complex thickne on OCT.
Reult
The macular thickne decreaed ignificantly after PDT (P = .001). However, no ignificant change in CNV thickne were meaured after PDT (P = .567). Once the diagnoi of ARMD wa etablihed before treatment, OCT had a enitivity of 96.77% for detecting CNV activity. After treatment, OCT had a good enitivity (95.65%) and a moderate pecificity (59.01%) in determining CNV activity, which reulted in a diagnotic efficiency (proportion of correct reult) of 82.95%.
Concluion
OCT appear to be ueful for indicating CNV activity. Therefore, it may erve a a complementary technique for deciding the need for PDT and re-treatment in patient with ARMD.
