  • Abstract
    Purpoe To determine the relative frequency that abnormal head poture in children are caued by orthopedic, ophthalmologic, or neurologic diorder, repectively. Deign A propective, conecutive cae erie. Method Children found to have an abnormal head poture on routine pediatric examination underwent an evaluation by a pediatric ophthalmologit, pediatric orthopedit, and pediatric neurologit. The tudy wa conducted in northwetern Italy. Reult In the 63 children evaluated, the caue of the abnormal head poture wa orthopedic in 35, ocular in 25, and neurologic in 5. In 8 patient, no pecific caue could be found. The mot common orthopedic caue wa congenital mucular torticolli, which accounted for 31 patient. The mot common ocular caue wa uperior oblique mucle paly, which accounted for 12 patient. In 2 patient neck mucle contracture uggeted an orthopedic caue, however, the tight neck mucle were econdary to a head tilt caued by uperior oblique mucle paly. Concluion When the caue of an abnormal head poture i not obviou, a multi-diciplinary approach including ophthalmologic, neurologic, and orthopedic pecialit may be helpful.
