Abstract :
Purpoe
To analyze the importance f optical coherence tomography (OCT) to diagnoe the cytoid macular edema in a cae of gyrate atrophy.
Deign
Obervational cae report.
Method
A 12-year-old boy preenting with gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina underwent ophthalmologic, clinical, and laboratory tet.
Reult
Plama ornithine level wa 735 μmol/l. Fluorecein angiography howed bilateral hyperfluorecence involving the central region of the macula. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) dicloed bilateral intraretinal cyt area of low reflectivity with occaional high-ignal element bridging the retinal layer and intraretinal thickening.
Concluion
Both fluorecein angiography and OCT were helpful to confirm the diagnoi of macular involvement a a complication of gyrate atrophy of the choroid and retina in a patient who preented without any clinical evidence of cytoid macular edema, except a decreae in viual acuity.
