Purpoe
To modify an infuion cannula for vitreou urgery and decreae cannula-related complication.
Deign
New urgical intrument.
Method
A conventional 20-gauge infuion cannula wa modified by forming a 135-degree angle at the joint of the flange between the cannula adapter and the needle. The loped plane of the needle tip wa oppoite the bent adapter. The cannula wa routinely fatened with a 7–0 aborbable uture after inertion into the eye.
Reult
We ued the modified infuion cannula in 50 conecutive phakic eye (48 patient). Intraoperatively, the cannula remained attached to the globe urface; it did not tilt anteriorly and damage the len when touched inadvertently. No uprachoroidal or ubretinal infuion wa oberved. Neither the len nor the retina wa damaged. There were no cannula-related retinal detachment or break during follow-up.
Concluion
The modified infuion cannula i more effective and afer during par plana vitrectomy in phakic eye compared with a conventional cannula.
