Abstract
Purpoe
To decribe the prevalence of numerical confuion error in Ihihara teting in a repreentative ample of Autralian children.
Deign
Cro-ectional, population-baed tudy.
Method
The ydney Myopia tudy examined a repreentative tratified random cluter ample of 1,741 children (aged 6 year) attending 34 chool in ydney, Autralia (repone rate, 78.9%), including color viion tet in 1,735 children. Thoe with any color viion defect (n = 33; 1.9%; 97% boy) were excluded. Repone for each Ihihara plate were recorded.
Reult
Numerical confuion error were made by 75.8% of children with normal color viion; there wa no gender difference. Plate 3 and 7 were particularly prone to numerical confuion error; 48.4% and 40.8%, repectively, of children miread thee plate.
Concluion
Numerical confuion error in the Ihihara tet were relatively common in children with normal color viion. The frequency of uch error could indicate an inherent deficiency in thi commonly ued tet.
