Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate whole-body poitron emiion tomography (PET)/computed tomography in taging of patient with metatatic choroidal melanoma. Deign Interventional non-randomized clinical tudy. Method Twenty patient were referred for whole-body 18-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucoe (FDG) PET/computed tomography imaging becaue of upected metatatic choroidal melanoma. PET/computed tomography image were tudied for the preence and ditribution of metatatic melanoma. ubequent biopie were performed to confirm the preence of metatatic dieae. Reult Twenty patient underwent PET/computed tomography. Eighteen were imaged becaue of abnormal clinical, hematologic, or radiographic creening tudie during the coure of their follow-up after plaque brachytherapy or enucleation. Two were imaged before treatment of their primary tumor. PET/computed tomography revealed or confirmed metatatic melanoma in eight (40%) of thee 20 patient. The mean time from initial diagnoi to metatai wa 47 month (range 0 to 154). The mot common ite for metatae were the liver (100%), bone (50%), lung (25%), lymph node (25%), and ubcutaneou tiue (25%). Cardiac, brain, thyroid, and poterior abdominal wall leion (12.5%) were alo noted. ix patient (75%) had multiple organ involvement. No fale poitive were noted. PET/computed tomography imaging alo detected benign leion of the bone and lymph node in three patient (15%). All patient had hepatic metatae and liver enzyme aay were abnormal in only one (12.5%) of eight patient. Concluion PET/computed tomography imaging i a enitive tool for the detection and localization of hepatic and extra-hepatic (particularly oeou) metatatic choroidal melanoma.
