  • Abstract
Purpoe To characterize gender difference in the Collaborative Longitudinal Evaluation of Keratoconu (CLEK) tudy. Deign Obervational, longitudinal tudy. Method A total of 1209 ubject at 16 clinic. For eye-pecific categorical variable, the number of eye per ubject with the characteritic wa counted. For eye-pecific continuou variable, the mean of both eye wa calculated. Multivariate linear (for continuou outcome) and logitic (for categorical outcome) regreion model were created for each baeline characteritic with tatitically ignificant (P ≤ .05) difference between men and women. Age, race, education, and corneal curvature were covariate. Reult The women were older, more likely to report a family hitory of keratoconu, more likely to be nonwhite, and le likely to complete college than men. Vogt’ triae and monocular and binocular high-contrat entrance acuity were the only viual characteritic that varied between men and women in the multivariate model. Women were more likely than men to report ocular ymptom of dryne and complaint baed upon a compoite core of ocular ymptom. Women reported more hour per day of near work and were le likely to report the ability to wear contact lene for enough hour to permit reading at home in the evening. Women reported more viit to their eye care practitioner during the previou 12 month. NEI-VFQ reult revealed difference in elf-reported difficulty with ditance activitie and driving. Concluion Gender difference exit in patient hitory, viion, and ocular ymptom in keratoconu patient.
