Abstract :
Purpoe To review our current knowledge of inherited optic neuropathie. Deign Perpective. Method Literature review. Reult The hereditary optic neuropathie conit of a group of diorder in which optic nerve dyfunction figure olely or prominently and direct inheritance i clinically or genetically proven. The mot common of thee diorder are autoomal dominant optic atrophy (Kjer’ dieae) and maternally-inherited Leber’ hereditary optic neuropathy. Other inherited neurologic and ytemic yndromic dieae will frequently manifet optic neuropathy. A elective vulnerability of the optic nerve to perturbation in mitochondrial function may underlie a final common pathway among thee diorder. Concluion The ophthalmologit hould be familiar with the clinical characteritic and diagnoi of the hereditary optic neuropathie. Recent advance in our undertanding of the underlying pathophyiology of the inherited optic neuropathie may provide inight into their treatment and the treatment of acquired optic nerve diorder.
