Abstract :
Purpoe
To tudy BCL10 expreion in ocular adnexal lymphoma in the U population and it aociation with clinical outcome.
Deign
Intitutional, retropective tudy.
Method
Immunohitochemitry wa performed with antibody againt BCL10 on two tiue microarray block that were contructed with paraffin-embedded tiue from the ame cohort of 48 patient with ocular adnexal lymphoma. The main outcome that were meaured include extraorbital involvement, recurrence rate, and time to recurrence. The median length of the follow-up period wa 40 month.
Reult
Aberrant BCL10 expreion (nuclear [moderate intenity] and cytoplamic [weak to moderate intenity] taining) wa oberved in 10 of 33 cae (30.3%) of mucoa-aociated lymphoid tiue (MALT) lymphoma, in 4 of 10 cae (40%) of follicular lymphoma (grade 1, 9 cae; grade 2, 1 cae), in 0 of 2 cae of diffued large B-cell lymphoma, in 0 of 1 cae of chronic lymphocytic leukemia/mall lymphocytic lymphoma and in 1 of 1 cae (100%) of mantle cell lymphoma. There were no difference in clinical parameter at examination (ie, average age, gender, ite of occurrence, laterality, extraorbital involvement at diagnoi), recurrence rate, and time to recurrence for patient (MALT lymphoma or follicular lymphoma) with or without aberrant nuclear BCL10 expreion.
Concluion
Aberrant BCL10 expreion can occur in other type of ocular adnexal lymphoma beide MALT lymphoma. Ocular adnexal MALT lymphoma may have lightly lower frequency of aberrant BCL10 expreion than gatric/pulmonary MALT lymphoma that have been reported in the literature. Furthermore, aberrant BCL10 nuclear expreion in ocular adnexal lymphoma doe not eem to correlate with clinical outcome. Further tudie that include a larger number of cae and longer follow-up period are needed to confirm our obervation.
