Abstract :
Purpoe
To report our experience with the ue of mycophenolate mofetil for treatment of idiopathic orbital inflammation (IOI).
Deign
Noncomparative interventional cae erie.
Method
We reviewed the record of five patient with IOI who were treated with mycophenolate mofetil. The indication for ue included recurrent inflammation after other therapie (four patient) and to avoid corticoteroid-induced blood ugar elevation in poorly controlled diabete mellitu (one patient). Treated patient were followed for a median of 8.5 month (range, 4–30 month) after mycophenolate mofetil therapy wa begun. Main outcome meaure were repone to treatment, treatment-related ide effect, drug doage, previou and final treatment regimen, and dicontinuation of ytemic corticoteroid.
Reult
Mycophenolate mofetil therapy wa dicontinued in one patient becaue of nauea. Each of the remaining four patient experienced complete reolution of orbital inflammation. Of thee, only one patient remain on prednione, but at a ignificantly reduced doe (1 mg/d).
Concluion
Mycophenolate mofetil therapy reulted in the reolution of inflammation in patient with refractory or corticoteroid-dependent IOI and wa ued uccefully for a firt epiode of IOI in a patient for whom corticoteroid were contraindicated.
