Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine the morphologic change in human cornea over time following radiofrequency-baed conductive keratoplaty (CK) treatment.
Deign
Propective, obervational cae erie.
Method
In a ingle-center tudy ix human cornea of ix patient with localized peripheral keratoconu underwent CK treatment followed by penetrating keratoplaty. Three pot were applied in the periphery of each cornea (6 mm optical zone). Corneal button were examined with light and electron microcopy at different potoperative interval up to 6 month pot-CK.
Reult
In ample aeed on day one pot-CK, mall area of detachment between the baal layer of epithelial cell and Bowman’ layer were oberved. At 1 week after the CK procedure, the epithelium appeared almot normal. Endothelium and Decemet’ membrane had no alteration. In all ample, thermally induced miconfiguration of collagen fiber, decribed a “crumpled” change of collagen layer, wa oberved reaching 75% to 80% of the tromal depth. The area of alteration had a cylindrical hape with a diameter of 120 μm.
Concluion
The conductive keratoplaty procedure produced collagen “crumpling and plitting” change in human cornea, which were oberved during the follow-up of 6 month. Area adjacent to treatment ite were minimally damaged.
