Ankle-Brachial Index and the Prevalence of Age-Related Maculopathy

Purpoe To examine the aociation of ankle-brachial blood preure index (ABI) with prevalence of age-related maculopathy (ARM). Deign A cro-ectional cohort tudy. Method ABI wa meaured in 2447 ubject aged 53 to 97 year. ARM wa determined from 30-degree color tereocopic fundu photograph. Reult Low ABI (≤0.9) wa preent in 5.4% of ubject. Early ARM wa preent in 22.1% of ubject with and 18.8% without low ABI. Late ARM wa preent in 5.3% of ubject with and 1.7% without low ABI. Thi reult wa not tatitically ignificant. Concluion Low ABI doe not appear to be a rik factor for ARM.
