Topical Cycloporine A in evere teroid-Dependent Childhood Phlyctenular Keratoconjunctiviti

Purpoe To ae the efficacy of topical cycloporine A (CA) in children with phlyctenular keratoconjunctiviti aociated with evere teroid-dependent corneal inflammation. Deign Propective, noncomparative, interventional cae erie. Method patient: Children with phlyctenular keratoconjunctiviti aociated with evere teroid-dependent corneal inflammation and not reponding to oral antibiotic (cycline or erythromycin). intervention: Topical CA 2% four time daily, initially combined with topical dexamethaone for the firt week. main outcome meaure: Efficacy wa judged by the patient (ymptom and ocular redne) and by the ophthalmologit (ocular redne and corneal inflammation). The patient were monitored for advere effect, and cycloporinemia wa determined every 3 month. Reult We tudied 11 children (13 eye) with a mean age of 9 year (range, 4 to 15 year). Inflammation wa controlled in all the eye within 14 day. Inflammation did not recur during CA monotherapy, during a mean follow-up of 12 ± 8 month (range, 6 to 31 month). CA therapy wa topped in eight patient (10 eye) after a mean treatment duration of 13 ± 9 month (range, 6 to 31 month), and no recurrence occurred during 10 ± 3 month of follow-up (range, 6 to 12 month). Local tolerance of CA wa good. None of the patient had detectable CA blood level. CA wa withdrawn in one cae after 6 month, becaue of generalized kin rah. Concluion Long-term topical CA 2% therapy i afe and effective in children with phlyctenular keratoconjunctiviti aociated with evere teroid-dependent corneal inflammation.
