Abstract :
Purpoe
To compare the fundu photographic and fluorecein angiographic feature with the hitologic finding in eye from patient enrolled in the ubmacular urgery Trial (T).
Deign
Clinical trial with clinicopathologic correlation.
Method
Eye that were obtained potmortem from patient who participated in the donor program were proceed at the T Pathology Center and examined hitologically; the macular region were recontructed topographically with two-dimenional cartography. Fundu photographic and fluorecein angiographic feature were correlated with the hitopathologic and two-dimenional cartographic finding.
Reult
The eye from two patient each from the T Group N and B Trial were tudied. The tudy eye of one patient that had been aigned randomly to obervation contained a ubretinal fibrovacular car that correponded to a hitologic growth pattern of a thick, collagenized ubretinal component combined with a ubretinal pigment epithelium (ubRPE) fibrovacular component. The tudy eye of the other patient who wa aigned randomly to obervation howed angiographic occult without claic choroidal neovacularization (CNV) that correponded to ubRPE CNV. The tudy eye of one patient who wa aigned randomly to urgery howed an angiographic urgical defect without CNV and hitologic retinal pigment epithelium (RPE)/photoreceptor atrophy that wa aociated with a thin layer of ubRPE CNV. The tudy eye of the other patient who wa aigned randomly to urgery howed an angiographic urgical defect with claic CNV that correponded to hitologic RPE/photoreceptor atrophy that wa aociated with ubRPE fibrovacular tiue and ubretinal CNV. Both urgical eye contained linear break in Bruch’ membrane that included chevron-haped break.
Concluion
Four T tudy eye that were examined potmortem contained CNV. The angiographic pattern and hitologic feature of the CNV upport previou correlation of urgically excied CNV.
