Abstract
Purpoe
To examine the aociation of ytemic marker of inflammatory dieae and vacular endothelial dyfunction with three type of age-related cataract.
Deign
Cro-ectional analye of data from a population-baed ample of adult.
Method
tandardized protocol for blood collection, meaurement of marker, adminitration of a quetionnaire, and grading of len photograph to determine cataract were ued. Univariable and multivariable analye were performed. etting: Cohort in Beaver Dam, Wiconin. tudy population: A random ample of 396 peron who were ≥50 year of age. main outcome meaure: Prevalent age-related nuclear, cortical, and poterior ubcapular cataract.
Reult
Interleukin-6 and intracellular adheion molecule-1 were aociated ignificantly with prevalent nuclear cataract (odd ratio for each quartile, 1.45 and 2.17, repectively). Many of the aociation of marker with cataract type were not linear. There were no ignificant aociation between the marker and cortical or poterior ubcapular cataract.
Concluion
Two erum marker of ytemic inflammation and vacular endothelial dyfunction were aociated with nuclear cataract.
