Abstract :
Purpoe
To characterize the long-term incorporation of tranplanted amniotic membrane into corneal troma.
Deign
Experimental tudy.
Method
Rabbit amniotic membrane, tained with a fluorecent dye (DTAF), wa implanted unilaterally into the corneal troma of four adult rabbit. Cornea were examined clinically and by tranmiion electron microcopy and fluorecent microcopy at 1, 3, 7, and 10 month after urgery.
Reult
Viibility of the tranplanted amniotic membrane, in itu, on lit-lamp examination decreaed over time. However, fluorecent and electron microcopy clearly demontrated that the amniotic membrane remained tructurally unchanged and intact within the corneal troma up to 10 month after implantation.
Concluion
Amniotic membrane allograft perit intact within an intracorneal pace for many month potoperatively and are not quickly broken down or diolved by the hot tiue.
