Abstract
Purpoe
Radial optic neurotomy (RON) in central retinal vein occluion (CRVO) i a novel trategy that i aimed at relief of mechanical preure on the central retinal vein. We report on hitopathologic finding in a human eye 18 week after RON.
Deign
Interventional cae report.
Method
Eighteen week after RON for ichemic CRVO, an eye wa enucleated becaue of neovacular glaucoma and examined hitologically.
Reult
Hitopathologic evidence demontrated diplaced fragment of Bruch’ membrane urrounded by retinal tiue at the naal ide of the papilla. A dicrete car wa noted at thi ite that reached the cribriform plate without involving the adjacent clera or the retinal veel. The optic nerve howed advanced atrophy with a mall temporal ector of viable nerve fiber.
Concluion
Hitopathologic finding after RON do not provide evidence for the potulated mechanim of action. It appear prudent to further evaluate thi technique before it general implementation in the management of CRVO.
