Abstract :
Purpoe To acertain the rate and related factor of phacoemulification wound burn. Deign urvey. Method We conducted a urvey of 523 ophthalmologit in Utah, Colorado, Montana, outh Dakota, and Oregon. Reult One hundred ix doctor (20.3%) reponded and provided data on 76,581 procedure and 75 wound burn (0.98/1000 procedure). Twenty-one wound (28%) occurred during early culpting, and 53 wound (71%) occurred during fragment removal. Wound burn were found to be aociated with urgical approach (P = .003), phacoemulification unit (P = .007), and unit etting (P < .001). Concluion Wound burn continue to be a eriou complication; however, advance in technology and urgical technique help.
