Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the long-term viual outcome and the complication rate following trancleral uture fixation of poterior chamber intraocular lene (utured PC-IOL).
Deign
A retropective cae-erie decriptive tudy.
Method
Record of patient who underwent combined par plana vitrectomy and utured PC-IOL at Moorfield Eye Hopital and who had at leat 12 month of follow-up were examined for recorded complication.
Reult
ixty-one eye of 48 patient (33 male and 15 female) were identified and included in the analyi, with mean follow-up of 6 year. The mean final bet-corrected viual acuity remained at preoperative level (P = .211) and wa largely determined by the underlying ocular pathology before utured PC-IOL. Overall 30 of 61 (49%) eye, two or more procedure were performed to revere a ignificant peri- or potoperative complication. Breakage of polypropylene uture wa the main indication accounting for 17 of 30 (57%) of thoe reoperation. ubgroup analyi howed that younger patient were more likely to uffer the above complication (P = .009). The multivariate analyi alo howed that longer follow-up wa ignificantly aociated with uture breakage (P = .014), with the mean time to breakage approximately 4 year after urgery.
Concluion
Long-term follow-up of patient undergoing utured PC-IOL appear to be aociated with a high rate of potoperative complication and ignificant need for further urgery, which hould be dicued during their informed conent proce.
