Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate the rate of infectiou and noninfectiou endophthalmiti after intravitreal injection of a high-doage of triamcinolone acetonide. Deign Clinical interventional cae-erie tudy. Method The tudy included 1135 intravitreal injection of approximately 20 mg triamcinolone performed for 915 eye with diabetic macular edema (n = 257), exudative age-related macular degeneration (n = 561), retinal vein occluion (n = 82), and other reaon. Among the injection were 220 reinjection. Triamcinolone wa filtered to remove the olvent agent. Mean follow-up wa 8.1 ± 7.4 month. Reult In none of the eye, ign of an infectiou or noninfectiou endophthalmiti were oberved uch a noncrytalline hypopyon, cellular infiltration, or amorphou opacification of the vitreou, retinal infiltration, or pain. One patient developed infectiou endophthalmiti 2 day after a traumatic rupture of a previou corneocleral cataract inciion. Concluion The rate of infectiou or noninfectiou endophthalmiti after an intravitreal high-doage triamcinolone injection may be approximately 1:1000, if the olvent agent wa removed.
