Abstract :
Purpoe To evaluate complication and reult of intravitreal triamcinolone acetonide for treatment of macular edema. Deign Interventional, conecutive, retropective cae erie. Method Ninety-three eye with macular edema ariing from retinovacular etiologie were treated with 4 mg intravitreal triamcinolone. Eye were monitored after injection for viual acuity change and complication, including cataract formation and increae in intraocular preure (IOP). Cataract progreion wa analyzed by linear regreion analyi of len core from len opacity tandard. Reult The mean viual acuity improved from 20/125 to −1 to 20/100 + 2 by one to two month after injection (P < .001) and wa 20/100 at the final examination (P = .006) at a mean of 1.2 year after injection. Complication included a evere, culture-negative inflammatory reaction in one eye (1.1%). IOP increaed to 30 mm Hg or more in nine (9.7%) of 93 eye between 1 and 140 day after injection and wa more frequent in eye receiving one or more preinjection glaucoma drop (two of 13 eye, 15.4%, v even of 80 eye, 8.75%, without preinjection glaucoma drop). Nuclear cleroi increaed at a rate of 0.175 U per year, poterior ubcapular cataract at 0.423 U per year, and cortical cataract at 0.045 U per year. Poterior ubcapular cataract increaed by ≥1 U or required cataract urgery in 45.2% of eye followed at leat one year. Concluion Intravitreal triamcinolone improve viual acuity in mot eye but eye mut be monitored carefully for increae in IOP. Poterior ubcapular cataract formation become viually ignificant in almot half of eye by one year after injection.
