Abstract :
Purpoe
To determine whether the location of a fluorecein-tained line, the Marx line (ML), which run along the inner eyelid, i correlated with meibomian gland function.
Deign
Propective obervational cae erie.
Method
After applying fluorecein dye olution to the eye, the ML core wa calculated for the outer, middle, and inner third of the lower eyelid margin. ML coring wa a follow: 0, entirely on the conjunctival ide of the meibomian orifice (MO); 1, part of the ML touche the MO; 2, ML run through all of the MO; and 3, ML run on the eyelid-margin ide of the MO. Correlation were calculated between the total ML core and age for 251 randomly recruited ubject without acute ocular urface dieae, and between age and the ML core for the three region of the lower eyelid. Correlation between the regional ML core and the meibographic core, and the meibomian gland ecretion core were alo determined. The total ML core of 15 ubject without meibomian gland dyfunction (MGD) were compared with 15 age-matched patient with MGD.
Reult
The three region of the lower eyelid had ignificantly different ML core. trong correlation were found between the ML core and age, the meibographic core, and the meibomian gland ecretion core. The total ML core of MGD group wa ignificantly higher than that of the non-MGD group.
Concluion
The trong correlation between the ML core and the meibomian gland core indicate that the ML core can be ued a a imple and rapid creening core for meibomian gland function.
