  • Abstract
    Purpoe To determine the effect of the axial length of the eye on photodynamic therapy (PDT) light fluence. Deign Laboratory invetigation. Method A calibrated Gulltrand-type model eye wa ued for thi tudy. The axial length of the model eye wa et to different value ranging from 20 to 31 mm, and the light fluence rate for treating a pot of 4 mm wa recorded and compared with a fluence rate of 600 mW/cm2 with four indirect condening laer lene. Reult The axial length of the eye i inverely related to light fluence. From myopia to hyperopia, the total deviation from 600 mW/cm2 wa −37.7% to +53.8% (Mainter tandard; Ocular Intrument Inc, Bellevue, Wahington, UA), and −48.3% to +20.5% (Mainter Wide Field; Ocular Intrument Inc), −52.3% to +16.7% (Volk Tranequator; Volk Optical Inc, Mentor, Ohio, UA), and −52.3% to +15.3% (Volk PDT Laer; Volk Optical Inc). Concluion Axial length of the eye ha a coniderable effect on PDT light fluence rate in thi model. Thee finding may be important for optimizing PDT, particularly in eye with high refractive error.
