Abstract :
Purpoe
To clarify hitopathologically the tructural feature of blepharoptoi in prolonged hard contact len wearer.
Deign
Retropective cae-control tudy.
Method
Biopy pecimen from identical ite at the levator aponeuroi and Mueller mucle from 15 long-term hard contact len wearer were examined hitopathologically (group 1). They compried two men and 13 women with bilateral blepharoptoi ranging in age from 26 to 59 year (mean ± D, 44.4 ± 10.70 year). The average length of hard contact len wear wa 25.4 year (range 12 to 40 year), and the average pherical equivalent refractive error wa −9.100 diopter (range −2.825 to −20.375 diopter). We alo examined pecimen from 15 patient with involutional blepharoptoi who underwent levator reection; they compried three men and 12 women ranging in age from 64 to 79 year (mean ± D, 72.3 ± 4.38 year).
Reult
All patient in group 1 manifeted fibroi and negligible fatty degeneration in Mueller mucle. In group 2, we detected mild fibroi in Mueller mucle and fatty degeneration of the aponeuroi and Mueller mucle.
Concluion
Prolonged hard contact len wear induce fibroi in Mueller mucle and may reult in contact len–induced blepharoptoi.
