Abstract :
Purpoe To invetigate the efficacy and afety of intravitreal bevacizumab for managing choroidal neovacularization (CNV) due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Deign Propective interventional cae erie. Method eventeen eye of 17 patient with ubfoveal CNV due to AMD participated in thi tudy at the American Univerity of Beirut Ophthalmology Clinic. All patient had failed, refued, or were not eligible for photodynamic therapy. All eye received a baeline eye examination, which included bet-corrected viual acuity (BCVA), dilated fundu examination, ocular coherence tomography (OCT) imaging, and fluorecein angiography. An intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (2.5 mg/0.1 ml) wa given at baeline and followed by two additional injection at four-week interval. BCVA, OCT, and fluorecein angiography were repeated four week after each injection. Main outcome meaure were improvement in BCVA and central retinal thickne (CRT). Reult Mean baeline BCVA wa 20/252 (median 20/200), and baeline CRT wa 362 μm (median 350 μm). Improvement in VA and CRT occurred by the fourth week. At 12 week, mean BCVA wa 20/76 (P < .001) and median BCVA wa 20/50 (P < .001). Both mean and median CRT decreaed to 211 μm (P < .001). Thirteen (76%) of 17 eye had total reolution of ubretinal fluid, and four eye (24%) had BCVA better than 20/50. No ytemic or ocular ide effect were noted at any time. Concluion Eye with CNV due to AMD treated with intravitreal bevacizumab had marked anatomic and viual improvement. Further tudie are neceary to confirm the long-term efficacy and afety of thi treatment.
