Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the correlation between the uperior or inferior half area of parapapillary atrophy (PPA) and the correponding hemifield viual field damage (VFD) in normal-tenion glaucoma.
Deign
Cro-ectional tudy.
Method
patient: One hundred nine eye of 109 conecutive patient with normal-tenion glaucoma. obervation procedure: Topography parameter of the optic nerve head and PPA (zone β) area were obtained with the Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (HRT), and VFD wa evaluated with the 30 to 2 program of Humphrey Field Analyzer. The HRT parameter and PPA area were determined eparately in uperior and inferior half region. main outcome meaure: Partial correlation coefficient of the uperior and inferior area of PPA with refractive error, axial length, HRT parameter, and correponding hemifield VFD.
Reult
In imple correlation analye, ignificant correlation wa found between the inferior PPA area and the uperior hemifield VFD (pearman rank correlation coefficient; R = −0.32; P < .001) but not between the uperior PPA area and the inferior hemifield VFD (R = 0.05; P = .6). Age, refractive error, axial length, and height variation contour were aociated ignificantly with the total, uperior, and inferior area of PPA, repectively (P < .01). Multiple regreion analye howed that the uperior PPA area wa aociated ignificantly with only axial length (P < .001), and the inferior PPA area wa aociated ignificantly with the axial length and the uperior hemifield VFD (P < .001).
Concluion
In patient with normal-tenion glaucoma, only the inferior half area of PPA correlated ignificantly with glaucomatou VFD. Axial length and myopia were aociated with both the uperior and inferior half area of PPA.
