  • Abstract
Purpoe To compare the effect on outcome of the route of adminitration of corticoteroid in acute Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae. Deign Retropective comparative interventional cae erie. Method etting: Nine international uveiti pecialty clinic. tudy population: Forty-eight patient preenting over a three-year period to a tudy center with acute Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada dieae. intervention: Initial treatment with corticoteroid either orally (Oral only group) or intravenouly followed by an oral taper (IV+Oral group). main outcome meaure: Change in viual acuity with treatment; development of ocular complication, including viually ignificant cataract, choroidal neovacularization, ubretinal fibroi, fundu pigment migration, nummular hypopigmented leion, and diffue fundu depigmentation; ue of immunouppreive therapy. Reult The Oral only group compried 15 patient (31%) and the IV+Oral group 33 patient (69%). Median follow-up wa 15 month. There wa no difference in duration of follow-up between group (P = .234). There wa no difference in the change in viual acuity between group, adjuting for initial viual acuity (P = .402). There were no difference in the rate of development of viually ignificant cataract, fundu pigmentary change, or in the rate of ue of ubequent immunouppreive therapy between treatment group. No patient developed choroidal neovacularization or ubretinal fibroi over the tudy period. Concluion Route of adminitration of corticoteroid had no detectable effect on change in viual acuity nor on the development of viually ignificant complication over the tudy period. Propective trial are neceary to addre peed of reolution and definitively anwer outcome quetion.
