Optic Dik ize in Chronic Glaucoma: The Beijing Eye tudy

Purpoe To evaluate whether eye with chronic glaucoma have a larger or maller optic dik than normal eye. Deign Population-baed, cro-ectional cohort tudy. Method The tudy included 4439 ubject out of 5324 ubject invited to participate with an age of 40+ year. Color optic dik photograph (45°) were morphometrically examined. Reult After excluion of aphakic eye, peudophakic eye, and highly myopic eye, data of 3989 ubject entered the tatitical analyi. The mean optic dik area did not vary ignificantly (P > .05) between the nonglaucomatou group (2.61 ± 0.50 mm2), eye with glaucomatou appearance of the optic dik (2.69 ± 0.63 mm2), eye with glaucomatou optic dik and viual field defect (2.66 ± 0.70 mm2), and eye with elevated intraocular preure (2.63 ± 0.49 mm2). Concluion In adult Chinee, optic dik ize may not markedly differ between normal eye and eye with chronic glaucoma.
