Purpoe
To examine the occurrence and outcome of methicillin-reitant taphylococcu aureu ophthalmologic infection in a newborn intenive care unit cohort.
Deign
Noninterventional cae erie.
Method
Over a 13-month period, 29 neonate were colonized with methicillin-reitant . aureu in a newborn intenive care unit outbreak. Patient were followed propectively during the coure of colonization and infection. The frequency and type of ophthalmologic infection wa recorded, and patient were treated according to clinical need.
Reult
Eleven of thee patient were found to have purulent conjunctiviti. No eriou ocular dieae enued in any of thee. pontaneou reolution occurred in ome patient, while other improved after either topical or ytemic antibiotic treatment.
Concluion
Depite invaive infection caued by methicillin-reitant . aureu, eriou ophthalmologic infection wa not found.
