Abstract :
Purpoe
To invetigate the corneal topographic effective optical zone (EOZ) in eye after wavefront-guided myopic laer in itu keratomileui (LAIK) and to compare them with the EOZ after tandard LAIK.
Deign
Retropective, cae-control tudy.
Method
We evaluated the corneal topographic map of 41 eye of 25 conecutive patient who had CutomVue LAIK (CV LAIK) and 41 eye of 23 patient who had tandard LAIK with correction up to − 7 diopter uing the VIX tar 4 laer (VIX Inc, anta Clara, California, UA). On the refractive map of the Humphrey Topography ytem, we defined the EOZ a the area outlined by a change of corneal power of 0.5 diopter from the power at the center of the pupil. We analyzed the difference in EOZ of the two ablation pattern and the correlation between EOZ and magnitude of refractive correction.
Reult
The mean potoperative EOZ were 17.9 ± 3.7 mm2 and 11.4 ± 3.4 mm2 after CV and tandard LAIK, repreenting 60% and 40% of the laer-programmed optical zone, repectively (both P < .0001). There wa no correlation between the potoperative EOZ and the magnitude of refractive correction for both ablation (all P > .05). In eye with pherical correction (cylinder ≤0.25 diopter), CV LAIK increaed the preoperative EOZ by 3.8 ± 5.6 mm2 (P = .018), wherea tandard LAIK decreaed EOZ by 4.5 ± 5.2 mm2 (P = .005).
Concluion
CV LAIK created larger corneal topographic EOZ than tandard ablation. In eye with pherical correction, the preoperative EOZ wa expanded by CV LAIK and reduced by tandard LAIK.
