Abstract :
Purpoe
To propoe a new technique for ilicone intubation in diorder of the lacrimal ytem in children and adult.
Deign
Retropective, noncomparative cae erie.
Method
The urgery wa performed in 513 eye of 426 patient from March 2003 to July 2005 in our hopital. With the help of a o-called oft probe and intranaal endocope, ilicone tube were inerted through both puncta into naolacrimal duct and left in place for three to ix month.
Reult
The urgery wa performed uccefully in all cae. No intraoperative complication were found in the procedure. Tube were removed between 2.1 and 5.3 month (mean 3.4 month) after urgery. Mean follow-up time after tube removal wa 15.1 month (range 3.3 to 27.5 month). Tube diplacement occurred in 11 cae (2.14%); no other complication aociated with ilicone tube, uch a granuloma formation or corneal eroion, occurred. All the tube were removed uccefully. No ophthalmic injurie occurred during tube removal.
Concluion
The technique proved to be effective in both children and adult. Thi technique, which i atraumatic, eay to perform, time-aving, and better tolerated, may be conidered a an alternative method for lacrimal ytem intubation.
