Melatonin Concentration in Aqueou Humor of Glaucoma Patient

Purpoe To determine whether glaucoma patient exhibit an abnormal melatonin concentration in aqueou humor. Deign Cae-controlled tudy, laboratory invetigation. Method Aqueou humor and plama ample of 28 patient with primary open-angle glaucoma and 31 nonglaucoma control patient were collected during urgery, and additional plama ample were taken the night preceding urgery. Melatonin concentration were determined uing direct radioimmunoaay. Reult Thi tudy how detectable concentration of melatonin in the aqueou humor of healthy human (45% of ubject) and of glaucoma patient (36% of ubject) ampled in the morning, with imilar level of aqueou humor melatonin concentration in both group (6.4 ± 9.3 tandard deviation (D) pg/ml and 3.6 ± 1.9 pg/ml, repectively). We find no ignificant aociation between the everity of glaucoma and melatonin level in aqueou humor or in plama. Concluion Moderate and evere glaucoma doe not appear to be aociated with abnormal melatonin concentration in aqueou humor, at leat during the morning ampling period aayed in thi tudy.
