Abstract :
Purpoe To tudy heat generation, vacuum, and flow characteritic of the Alcon Infiniti and Bauch & Lomb Millennium with reult compared with the Alcon Legacy and advanced medical optic (AMO) overeign machine previouly tudied. Deign Experimental tudy. Method Heat generation with continuou ultraound wa determined with and without a 200-g weight. Flow and vacuum were determined from 12 to 40-ml/min in 2-ml/min tep. The impact of a TAAR Cruie Control wa alo teted. Reult Millennium created the mot heat/20% of power (5.67 ± 0.51°C unweighted and 6.80 ± 0.80°C weighted), followed by overeign (4.59 ± 0.70°C unweighted and 5.65 ± 0.72°C weighted), Infiniti (2.79 ± 0.62°C unweighted and 3.96 ± 0.31°C weighted), and Legacy (1.99 ± 0.49°C unweighted and 4.27 ± 0.76°C weighted; P < .0001 for all comparion between machine except Infiniti v Legacy, both weighted). Flow tudie revealed that Millennium Peritaltic wa 17% le than indicated (P < .0001 to all other machine), and all other machine were within 3.5% of indicated. Cruie Control decreaed flow by 4.1% (P < .0001 for ame machine without it). Millennium Venturi had the greatet vacuum (81% more than the leat overeign; P < .0001), and Cruie Control increaed vacuum in a peritaltic machine 35% more than the Venturi ytem (P < .0001). Concluion Percent power i not conitent in regard to heat generation, however, flow wa accurate for all machine except Millennium Peritaltic. Retriction with Cruie Control elevate unoccluded vacuum to level greater than the Venturi ytem teted.
