Abstract :
Purpoe
To meaure the wrinkling periodicity (peak-to-peak or trough-to-trough ditance) for epiretinal membrane and contraction-induced choroidal fold, and ue thi data to infer difference in the elatic propertie of the retina and choroid, repectively.
Deign
Retropective cae review.
Method
Forty eye were identified with epiretinal membrane (33 eye) or contraction-induced choroidal fold (even eye). Digital red-free photograph were ued to determine the average peak-to-peak ditance between adjacent fold of retina or choroid uing commercially available oftware.
Reult
The average peak-to-peak pacing wa coniderably larger for contraction-induced choroidal fold v retinal fold caued by epiretinal membrane (278.2 ± 62.2 v 82.2 ± 7.66 μm, repectively; P = .0001). There wa no tatitically ignificant correlation between the peak-to-peak ditance and patient age for the epiretinal membrane group (P = .25) or the choroidal fold group, although the age range of patient within the later group wa narrow.
Concluion
Epiretinal membrane and contraction-induced choroidal fold are two example of wrinkling of biologic tiue under tangential tre. The larger peak-to-peak pacing for choroidal fold v retinal fold demontrate that the choroid i coniderably tiffer than the retina under mechanical deformation.
