Abstract :
Purpoe
To decribe the ultraonographic characteritic and treatment outcome of urgery in vitreou hemorrhage (VH) aociated with idiopathic polypoidal choroidal vaculopathy (IPCV).
Deign
Retropective interventional and obervational cae erie.
Method
Clinical, ultraound, and urgical data of 10 conecutive patient operated for VH due to IPCV in a tertiary eye intitute wa tudied by chart review. Data were analyzed to determine the clinical feature, ultraonographic characteritic, and urgical outcome. An additional five patient with IPCV without VH were evaluated by ultraound in variou tage of the dieae.
Reult
Between January 1998 and March 2005, 10 eye of 10 patient underwent vitreou urgery for VH aociated with IPCV. Characteritic ultraonographic feature that helped the diagnoi preoperatively included focal choroidal thickening without excavation or acoutic hollowing with aociated low reflective echoe of dipered VH, or diffue choroidal thickening and low-intenity echoe of dipered hemorrhage on either ide of the retinal pike, often without vitreou detachment pike. Oral corticoteroid were provided preoperatively to patient with aociated exudative retinal detachment. Indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) confirmed IPCV potoperatively. Focal leion were treated with laer photocoagulation. Anatomical ucce wa een in nine of 10 eye. Viual acuity improved in five of 10 eye but wa limited by macular pathology in other five eye. The mot common complication wa iatrogenic tear. ome eye had recurrent IPCV leion in follow-up.
Concluion
Characteritic ultraonographic feature could identify IPCV in eye with VH. Anatomical and viual outcome of our management approach were encouraging and need further tudy.
