Abstract :
Purpoe
To evaluate the extent of the viual impairment caued by uveiti-aociated cytoid macular edema (CME) and compare the reult with leion ize.
Deign
Obervational cae erie.
Method
etting: Uveiti outpatient clinic of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry, Medical Univerity of Vienna. patient population: CME wa verified in 30 eye of 30 conecutive uveiti patient with optical coherence tomography and leion ize wa aeed with retinal thickne analyzer. main outcome meaure: Ditance viual acuity (VA) (meaured with Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy tudy chart), reading acuity, and reading peed (teted with Radner Reading Chart). Reult were compared with nonaffected partner eye.
Reult
Ditance VA wa logMAR 0.22 ± 0.15 in CME eye v −0.02 ± 0.17 in healthy control. Reading acuity wa 75% of logMAR in CME eye v 92% of logMAR in control eye (P = .01). The mean reading peed wa 148.4 ± 36.6 word per minute in patient with CME v 168.9 ± 36.3 in patient without CME (P = .04). Reading acuity correlated with both leion ize and ditance VA (r = 0.61; P = .01 and r = 0.53; P = .028, repectively). Neither anatomical claification of uveiti nor gender or age had a ignificant influence on the evaluated parameter.
Concluion
Reading acuity and reading peed were coniderably more impaired than ditance viual acuity. The aeed parameter howed a better correlation to leion ize and eem to be a better reflection of macular dyfunction. Analyzing reading function i an important factor when following patient with CME and evaluating ucce of treatment modalitie.
