Abstract
Purpoe
To determine the pectrum of organim cauing acute bacterial conjunctiviti in hopitalized children at a tertiary care referral center.
Deign
Retropective chart review.
Method
Chart of hopitalized children with poitive conjunctival culture were reviewed, and patient with clinical decription of conjunctiviti were tudied.
Reult
One hundred and even iolate from 59 patient were included in the tudy. The mot common organim cultured were coagulae-negative taphylococcu (59.3% of patient), viridan treptococcu (47.5%), and taphylococcu aureu (20.3%). The type of organim differed baed on age, with . aureu and Haemophilu influenzae being more common in nonneonate. Gram-negative bacilli and methicillin-reitant taphylococcu pecie were more common in patient hopitalized longer than two day.
Concluion
The ditribution of bacterial organim cauing acute bacterial conjunctiviti in our hopitalized children differ from that of previou report in the outpatient etting. Conjunctival wabbing for culture and enitivitie before intituting empiric broad-pectrum antibiotic therapy may be ueful.
